From the people who brought you "Reframing the Hourglass" comes another in the series on appearance and assumption with the real-life issues of Breast Cancer.

Beauty and the Breast is a found object theater piece by Lunatique Fantastique, commissioned and produced by the EXIT Theatre, which examines the difficult decisions faced by women who have breast cancer.

Both humorous and poignant, the piece is based on interviews with women who are survivors of breast cancer in various stages from the newly diagnosed to 30-year remission. The play will use a pallet of found objects or ordinary object puppets which will be brought to life as the ensemble manipulates them to tell the real-life stories of the bodies behind the breasts.

Beauty and the Breast will premiere April 2006 in San Francisco at EXIT Theatre's DIVAfest, a theater festival dedicated to new plays by women writers.

The cast includes bras, gardening tools, pills, file folders, and flower pots.

Note from the Director:

The moment Liebe displayed her object pallet on the table in my studio and began to transform the orchid colored bra into a character named Breasty, my heart was won over. A flowerpot became a doctor, a copper colored wig became a wiry little terrier. I knew that I wanted play in the world of Lunatique Fantastique. This unique approach to theater invites everyone who witnesses it to see the world in a different way. The humor touches the heart and the story touches the soul. And a pair of garden shears will never look the same again. The imagination is taken on a journey and memories of childhood flights of fancy come flooding back. Sometimes, a rose can be more than a rose. --Jayne Wenger
